When a person heads to juvenile court, it can be extremely helpful to have a juvenile lawyer present. Juvenile attorneys are essential to fighting court cases that are in juvenile court. They have more knowledge regarding adolescent development and know much about juvenile court proceedings. Before you hire an attorney, ask these questions.
Not all attorneys work with juvenile clients. This is the most important thing to confirm before asking any other questions you may have for a lawyer. Once you've established that they do in fact work on youth cases, it's time to vet their experience. While you may see online reviews for the law office, they probably don't give a lot of detailed information due to the personal nature of each person's case. Ask about their experience in the type of case you need help with including how many of those cases they have worked on and the outcome of them.
Make sure the lawyer is available and able to work on your case. There may be special circumstances to take into consideration. For example, the defendant may be disabled. According to the Children's Defense Fund, at least one in three minors in the juvenile justice system has a disability qualifying them for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. It's important to know that the juvenile lawyer can work under these circumstances. This is also a good time to confirm that the attorney has enough time to help you.
Before you sign anything, ask about the payment structure. This can be confirmed during the free consultation once you finish discussing the case itself. The lawyer can explain the payment structure and inform you of any available payment plans.
You've decided that this is the lawyer for you and your case. At this point, your attorney may want to schedule another meeting. Alternatively, they might ask you to gather documents needed for the case. Before you part ways, decide when you will meet again and what you need to do in the meantime.
These are just a few questions to ask before deciding whether you should work with a particular juvenile lawyer. Do you have questions about a particular case? Contact the Law Offices of Jason Pollack, Esq today for more information or get started with our legal services.
